So, this new angler still hasn’t caught a fish and is starting to get frustrated. I love being out in nature and Im actually enjoying myself on the river, which is great. I don’t have high expectations, but damnit, one fish, that would be nice.
Last night I headed down to the Deerfield at dusk, there were more people fishing than Id ever seen down there. Clearly Ive been going at the wrong time. So, I found a spot, threw the line in and hug out till the water came up and it started getting to dark and thus forced me to head home. I did catch something, but didnt land it. So, Im getting there I guess.
The sunset was beautiful on my way home. I stopped at the hairpin turn and met a fellow angler just heading to his hotel after fishing all afternoon. We talked flies, I acted like I knew what I was talking about. He encouraged me to stick with it, and comforted me saying that most people didnt catch last night.
I came home, watched The Normal Heart and then started working on one of my websites. Next thing I knew, it was 5am! I had pulled an all-nighter (must have been the iced-coffee I had on the way to the river). Wide awake, I decided to head back. Clearly I am starting to understand the fishing times, tons of people on the river. I found a spot and a super chit-chatting guy came up. His first question to me was, “where is your reel?!?” I explained Tenkara, again acting like I knew what I was doing. He spent the whole time pacing up and down the river and playing with his gear. I think I saw him cast once in the hour he was there. He caught nothing, I caught nothing, except for about 100 bug bites.
I went home the long way to scope out other places, based on where trucks were parked.
Another day, no fish. I am starting to get frustrated cause I think Im doing everything right.
